Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar
2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant dry yeast
1 tsp salt
¾ cup warm milk (around 110°F / 43°C)
¼ cup warm water
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)
1 large egg
For the filling:
1 ½ to 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (mild or sharp)
Optional: garlic powder, chili flakes, or green onions for flavor boost
Instructions:
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
Add warm milk, water, egg, and melted butter.
Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 5–7 minutes until soft and elastic (or use a stand mixer with a dough hook).
First Rise
Cover the dough with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for 30–45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Rolls
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces.
Flatten each piece, place about 1–2 tbsp of shredded cheese in the center, and pinch edges to seal into a ball.
Bake
Place rolls seam-side down on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
Let rest for 10 minutes.
Brush tops with melted butter.
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffy.
Tips & Variations
Add jalapeños or bacon bits to the cheese for extra flavor.
Top with sesame seeds or shredded cheese before baking for a cheesy crust.
Serve warm with soup, salads, or as a snack with honey butter or ranch dip.
