Ingredients:
12 lasagna noodles
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
1/2 lb (225 g) ground Italian sausage
1 small onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 cups ricotta cheese
1 large egg
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Cook the noodles: Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay flat on a clean surface to prevent sticking.
Make the meat sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, diced onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onions are soft. Drain any excess grease.
Stir in the marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 10–15 minutes.
Prepare the ricotta mixture: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, the egg, and Parmesan cheese. Mix until smooth.
Assemble the lasagna:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Layer 3 lasagna noodles on top.
Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
Add 1/3 of the meat sauce.
Repeat layers two more times, finishing with a layer of meat sauce and mozzarella on top.
Bake: Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Rest and serve: Let the lasagna cool for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
